Characters of Jovian Chronicles

Military Characters

Commander Samual Cross

Samuel Cross was born on a remote mining outpost in the Vanguard Trojan state. His father was the facility administrator and his mother was director of mining operations. Due to his parents' positions, he was isolated from the other children in the complex. He spent most of his time playing with his two brothers and sister. At sixteen he got his first job piloting M-pods for his mother. He was good at his job and didn't rely on the status of his mother to get things done. Sam quickly developed a reputation as a hard worker and gained respect among the mining crew.

At eighteen, he attended Institut Superieur de Gestion and studied Civil Administration. He did well in his studies but did not have a passion for the subject. During his senior year he decided to join the JAFTC (Jovian Armed Forces Training Corps). He enjoyed the structure and discipline the military provided. After completing his degree, he joined the JAF and entered Pilot Training Program. His experience with M-pods as a teenager gave him an edge in training. He graduated from the program and was assigned to the JCS Godsfire and served under Admiral Zacharie Gloval.

Two days after arriving on the Godsfire while on leave in Elysee, he met Danielle Roux at a café overlooking the Parc des Buttes Chaumont. In a whirlwind romance, they were married in two weeks much to the disappointment of Danielle's father, Senator Aristide Roux. Two years into the marriage, Danielle gave birth to William. Due to the distance created by space travel and military life, Samuel and William would never have a close relationship and most interaction between the two would be tense. Samuel was continually disappointed in his son's choices, always wishing that he would join the military. While proud of his son's athletic ability, he was never pleased with the people and culture of collegiate sports.

While Cross was known for his habit of fighting, he was a solid officer. He and Admiral Gloval became close friends, as much as military life would permit. He quickly advanced through the ranks. He became the CAG of the Godsfire where he served for three years under Admiral Gloval. At the Battle of Eylsee, he received the Croix Argentée for his bravery during the battle. After the battle, he was promoted, and made the Executive Officer of the JCS Vengeance.

The distance that effected his relationship with his son, would also effect his relationship with his wife. While they loved each other deeply, his absence and the tension between he and his son caused them to separate six times in twenty-four years of marriage. Each time they have mended the relationship and it is stable at this point in time. He promised after returning from the trip to Earth, he would resign his commission to spend more time with is family.

Lt. Gerald O'Conner

Gerard O’Conner is from a family of space-faring shippers. Born on Vanguard Mountain Station Gerard has spent almost as much time traversing Jovian space on cargo hauls as he has in the station. Gerard learned much of his navigation and sensor operations on these hauls. He also learned to play poker. His whole family plays regularly and cheats with gusto. Later in his JAF career Gerard realized that his family’s poker games taught him a valuable skill and though he gets roundly trounced in the family games he is considered a “shark” by most in the officer’s club.

Gerard became the first of the O’Conner’s to join the JAF which initially caused some friction between him and his father Seamus. Eventually Seamus accepted it commenting that at least somebody in the JAF new what he was doing.

Gerard started as a navigator before moving on to just about everything on the bridge. Recently Gerard has been promoted to OPS an achievement of which he is very proud.

Lt. Rachel Lasalle

Rachel was born on Zagodka. She was incredibly competative at a young age though she wasn't always the best. This caused a series of behavior problems and by the time she reached her teens her parents were fed up and she was rebelling. By the time she graduated from Secondary she had no plans and no future. Her parents gave her two choices: trade school or the military. She chose the military because she knew her parents wanted her to take up trade school.

The military turned out to be a great choice because it managed to teach respect and discipline. However, her competative nature helped her thrive. She later went to college and managed to become an officer. Now she is a quick climber but also very strict with rules, almost the opposite of her younger years.

J.G. Lt. Engineer Oslo Bogosian

The only son of Titian and Dorthea Bogosian, a CEGA
journalist and a member of the Guantanamo House of Delegates, respectively, Oslo
Bogosian grew up never having lived anywhere for more than two years. His natural
aptitude for the physical sciences was first manifest in second grade when he swept
Tourmaline Elementary School's 68th Annual Science Fair. What friends he's lacked in his
personal history since that time he has built from processors, diodes and scrap metal. One
summer in college while studying the tensile strength of titanium alloys in plasma
suspension, Oslo lost his left forearm in the laboratory. It has since been replaced with a
cybernetic prosthetic. Now outdated, Oslo keeps it around for solely sentimental reasons—
not to mention for its many "jury-rigs" and "enhancements" which he keeps secret. Oslo
serves aboard the Vengeance as J.G. Lt. Engineer and has garnered the attention of his
superiors. Jacques "Pinto" Symonds is just about the only person onboard who Oslo has
any modicum of tension with. Pinto used to date his sister and after leaving her at the altar
the relationship did not end well, to say the least.

Exo - Armor Characters

Commander Roy (Razor) Lafferty

Born in Heorot Roy grew up around the entertainment industry as his father was a set designer and his mother was an agent. This always made Roy feel special as he went to public schools but also got to meet famous movie stars. Even though Roy was popular in school he could not seem to break into movies even though he got a couple commercials at the age of 10.

After school Roy joined the military and became an exo-pilot. He also me Liana during his first tour of duty. At the end of tour the two where engaged and was offered a part in a new series . The creators of "Forever Minus One" had a new series called "Space Hazard" in which they wanted to cast at least one real exo-pilot and Roy with his good looks and connections fit perfectly. The show only ran three seasons and Roy had a small part playing Razor, the rookie.

Liana still served in the military but the two got married even though they rarely saw each other. Liana got pregnant and was finishing up her duty which was to finish up in a month. Roy was finishing up filming the third season when the battle of Elysee broke out. Liana was caught in the middle and her Exo was destroyed.

After the battle of Elysee "Space Hazard's" ratings tanks and the show was cancelled. Roy rejoined the military and drowned his sorrow in the bottle. His only friend was Gerald O'conner who he served with and frequently lost at poker to.

Lt Morgana (Twitch) DeCovey

Morgana was born on a habitation cylinder within the Olympian state. At the age of four her parents died in a freak accident on the cylinder. A tug crashed into the cylinder at the point where her family’s habitation unit was located. Her father shoved her into the bathroom just in time before emergency doors shut. For several hours young Morgana watched the explosively decompressed bodies of her parents float about in the freezing vacuum of space.

After she was rescued she was sent to live with her only living relative, Stan, her father’s brother. Stan was a mechanic who worked at JAW shipyards. While he did not expect the burden of being a foster-father he took to it quite well. Very early he discovered that Morgana had artistic talents. Stan went out of his way to make sure that Morgana’s talent was encouraged, charter schools, always taking her to the museum (even though he sometimes found it boring), even once in arranging for Morgana to paint his maintenance pod. All of this paid off when Morgana won a place… and a scholarship to the Elsee Acadamie des Arts. No one could be prouder of this achievement than her uncle.

Morgana loved the Acadamie she was able to really achieve a mastery of her art under the tutelage of the professors. She had several well received art exhibits though “dark, morose, disturbing” were the three most used adjectives to describe her work. Her stay at the Acadamie was cut short by the tragic death of Stan.

Stan was on a new Jovian ship during its shake down cruise when a skirmish with CEGA happened. Stan ended up a casualty. For 2 days Morgana raged, cried, sulked and stared at blank walls. Her friends at the Acadamie were worried that Morgana might attempt suicide. On the third day after news of her uncle’s death Morgana grew very calm. She set up his funeral, and sat through his funeral, and took care of his remaining affairs. She then quit the Elsee Acadamie des Arts and signed up for the Jovian Armed Forces.

In her entrance exams to the JAF Morgana scored almost off the charts for piloting skills. She also was a perfect candidate for Project 247. As Morgana went through training she was closely watched. When pilot assignments came out she ended up being sent to the “Redeye” Academy an elite pilot training program. It was so hard she swears there are several weeks stricken from her memory. She could not be happier to see orders assigning her to the Vengeance.

Lt Jaque (Pinto) Symonds

"Toffy" Strawbridge

Lanky and awkward are the two words that best describe
Toffy's physique. Sporting an unkempt ragamuffin haircut, he's one of the nimblest exo-
pilots to ever make it through the academy. No one knows Toffy's real name, as his
identity has been irreparably altered ever since he accidentally spat a Werther's Original
out onto his C.O.'s shoes while reporting for duty. His adeptness and acuity for vector
equations make his piloting technique seem precognitive or preconscious in tight jams.
And Toffy's had more than his share of those. When off duty Strawbridge likes to
decompress at places like his hometown "Kiley's Pub" where one could forget about their
troubles, have a brew and play a good game of poker or darts. He regularly plays poker in
the ship's lounge with Gerard O'Conner, and although they don't do much else together,
they have a rare friendship that is founded in a mutual trust and respect. With a relaxed air
about him, Toffy gets along with pretty much everyone, even if he doesn't have much luck
with the ladies. If you're in a fight he might not do you a lick of good, but there's sure
money if Toffy's your friend that he'll be there right by your side regardless.

Civilian Characters

Dr. Hans Emmirate

William Cross

You might think that a student at Elsee University on of the most prestigious schools would regularly show up to class. You may even expect him to be courteous to his professors. You may even expect him to do his own homework. In the case of William Cross you would be wrong. Why isn’t he booted? Why is the university still paying the bills? Because when you have the best free-back of your schools athletic history you cut him some slack.

William Cross is quite possibly the hottest prospect for the next International Exo-Ball League draft. He is the engine behind the scoring machine that the Elsee University Exo-ball team has become. An 89% completion rate coupled with an explosive ability to run the ball in is just the tip of the iceberg.

Unfortunately for all of Williams’s athletic abilities his personal life is a disaster. He was raised by his mother almost exclusively due to his father’s constant absences. William originally joined his high-school Exo-ball team out of a desire to be like is father (in space). Then he discovered that he was very good at it. Then he got a scholarship to EU. Then he became the first person in the Cross line not to join the JAF at the first opportunity. This is where his father flew into a rage.

From Williams’s point of view his father only took an interest in his life when William didn’t do what his father wished. The times when William excelled and achieved something on his own it was doing something his father wasn’t happy about. See where this is going?

Jean Conners

Professor Emil Knudsen, PhD

Famous, critically lauded professor of musical theory, Emil Knudsen is somewhat of a recluse and a definite enigma of a man. No one knows quite sure why he's on the ship other than that he has strange and long-reaching research methodologies that bring him to every corner of the universe. A strong rumor has it that he's working on his latest tome, "Beyond the Music of the Spheres" (working title) and that it will be his seminal work. A weaker, lesser known, rumor has it that he's had a sordid May-December relationship with one of his past university students, Morgana DeCovey. Emil mostly keeps to himself in his guest quarters either writing some erudite piece on "tonal landscapes and their relationship to the politics of desire" or playing an original composition on his pentatonic zimm harp. On the rare occasion when he's out of doors he seems integrally involved in some book or datfile. Careful examination would reveal that Emil has a bit of a hobby people watching. Walking the deck, book in hand, there probably isn't anything onboard that escapes the eccentric professor's highly attuned ear.

Misty Conners

Jean Conners 17 year old cousin. She is on the ship to attend science fair and see the exo-ball game. Since Jean was on the ship she was allowed to go.

Erica Dupont

Close friend and coworker of Jean

Sharron Kavri

Sharron is a diplomat for the Jovian Confederation. She was put on the La Trance in order the smooth things over before they got out of control (a lot like how Ignatius Chang was sent to Jupiter).
